High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
Within the classroom, our teachers use targeted strategies to support and challenge HPGE students. We provide enriched learning experiences, including differentiated tasks, critical thinking challenges, and creative projects that cater to individual strengths and interests. Our flexible learning approach ensures students can progress at their own pace while developing both academic and social skills in a supportive environment.
Across our school
Our school works collaboratively with neighbouring schools to provide a broad range of opportunities that enrich the learning experience for our HPGE students. These include events such as Science Day, Cultural Day, NAIDOC Day, Public Speaking competitions, Spelling Bees, Roxy Gallery Exhibitions, performances, and participation in combined sports teams. We also host visiting authors and offer a diverse array of programs tailored to the interests and strengths of our students. Students have the chance to engage in Aurora College placements, connecting them with high potential learners across NSW and broadening their educational horizons.
Across NSW
Across NSW, the Department of Education offers extensive programs and initiatives to support gifted and high potential students. These include selective schools and classes, state-wide enrichment programs, professional development for educators, and partnerships with cultural and scientific organisations. Students can participate in representative sporting opportunities, creative arts and music camps, combined school camps and excursions, and access specialised programs like Aurora College placements, fostering growth and excellence in diverse areas.
